Lab-Grown Diamonds Are Coming

This might be our best news yet! Our moissanite jewelry has been flying off the shelves, so we've decided to take it a step further with Lab-Grown Diamonds. Our first collection is dropping on Tuesday, March 28th, where you'll find 4 popular styles of lab-grown diamond rings, set in solid 14K and 18K yellow/white gold.
PLUS we will release two moissanite styles set in solid 14K white gold!

What are lab-grown diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds are made using advanced technology in a lab mimicking natural conditions. There are two known methods- HPHT which takes natural diamonds as seeds to simulate growth, and CVD which cultivates diamonds by activating carbon-based gases using chemical vapors at specific temperatures and pressures.
The lab-grown diamonds found on Trendsi are created using the CVD method. Both natural diamonds and diamonds cultivated by the CVD method are pure carbon crystals, and their crystal structure, physical properties, chemical properties, and optical properties are identical.

Benefits
  • Control over quality - the four C's of diamonds — cut, color, clarity, and carat — can all be controlled and determined in a lab, making brighter and purer diamonds with fewer defects.
  • Affordable pricing - lab-grown diamonds can be produced more efficiently, which saves on production costs without the need for sourcing and middleman fees
  • Environmental protection and sustainability - lab-grown diamonds are guaranteed to be ethical, conflict-free, and environmentally friendly, as no mining is needed to harvest these diamonds. These are the real deal, without the added ethical, moral, and environmental costs.
  • International Gemological Institute (IGI) Certified - all Trendsi lab-grown diamond products will include official IGI certification with cut, color, clarity, carat, and lab-grown identification.

International Gemological Institute (IGI) vs. Gemological Institute of America (GIA)
There are two official institutions that provide certifications for both naturally occurring and cultivated diamonds, depending on the origin of the diamond. The GIA is more commonly used in the US and has been around since 1931, while the IGI is more common in other countries and has been around since 1975. Since our products are sourced from China, where IGI certification is the most common, all Trendsi lab-grown diamonds will be certified through IGI and will include the official certification.

If there is a preference for GIA certification, our supplier can also provide this with a turnaround time of 30 days, and fees associated with the certification will be the purchaser's responsibility.

Growing popularity
Lab-grown diamonds are becoming ever more popular. The knowledge that they are conflict-free and ethically made is a huge selling point, especially with the growing understanding of blood diamonds and the harmful effects of mining on individuals and the environment.
At present, it is estimated that the lab-grown diamond industry accounts for 8-10% of global diamond jewelry sales. The United States is the largest lab-grown diamond consumption market, representing 80% of the demand in the US and 50% of the global demand for diamond jewelry. The price point is also unbeatable. Your customers will rave about the fact that they can get a more brilliant diamond with fewer flaws at a lower cost!

Selling lab-grown diamonds is a great way to enhance your marketability, grow your customer base, and strengthen your business. If you carry jewelry already, this will really elevate your boutique. If you haven't ventured into the jewelry market yet, there's no better time to start! Starting off in the jewelry market with something like diamonds can be intimidating, but it will be well worth it, as there's always a market for fine jewelry. Use the upcoming wedding season to market these, as anniversaries are a popular time to give and receive diamonds.

Using Trendsi to start off selling fine jewelry is a great strategy, as it is risk-free! With a steeper wholesale cost, it's reassuring to remember that with Trendsi, you don't have to pay until it sells.
